Ben has spent his whole career representing people and their families who have been injured or wronged due to the careless and reckless actions of others. This typically means taking on insurance companies and other large corporations that all too often deny taking responsibility for the harms and losses they cause.
As a trial lawyer, Ben has tried numerous jury trials in various courts throughout northern and central Ohio. The majority of verdicts obtained by Ben have been more than double than what the insurance company was willing to offer to settle. Ben attributes this success to the unreasonable positions that insurance companies often take, the amount of work and time he devotes to each case, and taking the time to listen to his clients.
Recently, Ben obtained a six figure judgment on behalf of a young woman who suffered a serious knee injury after she was rear ended in a car accident. Prior to going to court, the insurance company was only willing to offer her $1,500 to compensate her for her injuries, an amount that would have only covered a small fraction of her medical bills. “They denied that the car accident caused her knee injury, and instead tried to blame all of her problems on a preexisting degenerative condition in her knee that required surgery several years prior to the accident. They did this despite her making a full recovery after that surgery and being very active prior to the accident, which included walking several miles every day. Her surgeon testified that the accident had reinjured her knee, that she would now need to have another surgery, and that there was no guarantee that it would be as successful as the first surgery. Yet they continued to deny responsibility and instead tried to make it appear that she was lying and exaggerating. They did this to try and frustrate her into giving up and accepting their low offer, all in an effort to further increase their profit margin.”
In 2017 Ben was selected as an Ohio Super Lawyer® Rising Star®, an honor that is awarded to less than 2.5% of all attorneys. Lawyers are selected based on their achievements in their respective field of practice and peer review. According to Thompson Reuters, the lawyer rating organization: “Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The result is a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of exceptional attorneys.”
Also in 2017 Ben was selected as a Top 10 Personal Injury Attorney Under 40 Years Old by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys (NAOPIA). According to the NAOPIA: “With thousands of attorneys in each state, the NAOPIA’s rigorous, independent selection process resolves the challenge of attorneys claiming to be ‘the best’ without basis for such claims. For the injured, finding a well-qualified Personal Injury attorney is imperative, and the NAOPIA’s process leaves no doubt as to whom the preeminent Personal Injury attorneys are.”
Ben graduated from Kent State University with honors in just three years. After college, Ben attended law school at the University of Dayton, where he again graduated early while still finishing ranked in the top tier of his class and receiving the CALI award for excellence. Having been injured as a result of another driver’s negligence as a teenager, Ben has experienced first-hand how insurance companies treat and fight injured individuals. After law school Ben realized that his experience with insurance companies was not unique. “Despite all the ‘in good hands’ and ‘like a good neighbor’ advertisements, insurance companies typically distort the truth to avoid compensating injured people fairly so that they can further pad their pockets. This is what has motivated me to seek justice for the injured individuals I represent and ensure that they get the fair compensation they deserve.”
Ben is currently a member of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) and Ohio Association for Justice.
When Ben isn’t tirelessly working for his clients, he enjoys spending time with his wife Karrie and daughter Kennedy.
